First Frame 2014 (Sixth edition)

The Institute organized sixth edition of First Frame – International Students’ Film Festival on April 7 & 8 at Arya Auditorium, East of Kailash. The festival was inaugurated by Mr. Bimal Julka, Secretary, Ministry of I&B, Govt. of India. This time First Frame had gone a notch higher as it became the first students’ film festival to crowd fund, live stream, and introduced the revolutionary concept of talk shops and live circles. Apart from this, it also had an international partnership with Digital Film Academy , Sri Lanka’ s COINS Film Festival.

Prior to the festival a Preliminary round to select films was also organized in the institute by eminent jury comprising Mr. Ashish Pandya, Sound Recordist, Mr. Pankaj Johar, Independent Film maker, Mr. Hemant Gaba, Founder, Pennywise Films Pvt. Ltd. and Ms. Rajni Basumataray, Assamese Film Maker. A Press Conference was also organized on March 25 at YMCA by the Institute to get maximum media coverage for the festival. Some 40 Print, Radio and Online media organizations were represented.

The two day extravaganza had a total of 33 films being screened from different genres comprising of National (Fiction, Documentary & Ad films), International (Fiction & Documentary) and a separate category for school students. Besides this a Korean film “Miracles of a Giving Fool” and K-drama, Dr. HurJun was also screened at the festival followed by a discussion on the latter. The final jury of the event comprised Mr. Mike C. Berry, Founder & CEO, Golden Tulip Films and Ms. Shazia Khan, Documentary Filmmaker.

The Third F8 National Photography Competition & Exhibition received 124 entries which was judged by Mr. Shailendra Pandey, National Photo Editor, Patrika Group and Prof. M.B. Julka, Director of MBICEM. The theme of the competition was “Celebrations”. It was a tough call for the judges to come to a decision. The competition had separate categories for school and college students.

The second Live edition of Institute’s quarterly newsletter- MagzL was launched at the valedictory function containing of all the activities during the two day festival. Winners of different categories were awarded with cash prizes worth Rs 1.5 lakhs by Mr. Kim Kum-Pyoung, Director, Korean Cultural Centre (KCC), India.
