As part of the Seventh International Students’ Film Festival- First Frame 2015, the Fourth edition of F8 National Students’ Photography Competition & Exhibition 2015 was organized by MBICEM. The Competition was judged on Monday i.e. April 6, 2015 at the Institute Premises. This time F8 went a notch higher by inviting Photo stories from participants on seven themes namely- Education, Environment, Gender Equality, Health, Social Issues, Sports and Tourism. These themes were finalized keeping in mind the govt. of India’s flagship programmes such as Make in India and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. This made the competition even more interesting as the participants had to choose one theme from the given seven themes and communicate their story in minimum of five and maximum of ten photographs with appropriate captions. The call for entries went online from December 25, 2014 onwards.
Team F8 received 53 photo stories in all from nine states of India, out of which 47 competed in the College Category (Under-Graduate/Post-Graduate) and 6 in the School Category. Apart from these categories, for the first time a Special Category has been instituted in this edition i.e Voters’ Choice. For this category, an online voting system was introduced and all the entries were uploaded on Facebook, and on the basis of number of likes, a photo story was selected.
The Competition was judged by a panel of two esteemed judges- Mr. Rajinder Singh, Senior Photographer with National Institute of Health & Family Welfare (NIHFW) and Mr. Ashim Ghosh, an inventor, multiple media artist and one of India’s erstwhile contemporary photographer. Both the judges were of the opinion that both hard and soft copies would be required for the purpose of judging the photo stories. Since, all the photo stories were uploaded online, hence the judges screened the photo stories in digital format and the hard copies were displayed for their perusal through the exhibition. The parameters of judging the photo story were composition, story, message, technical quality and message. The Judges gave a good amount of time to the F8 Photo exhibition; glancing through each photo story very minutely and this was quite evident in their judgement too.
